My name is Jennifer.Mae.Jennings and I was diagnosed with a rare muscle disease called dermatomyositis. It all happened on my brothers birthday March tenth.I was playing volley ball when I went to get the ball and I passed out so the school called my mother. My parents have seen a big difference in me for the last couple of months I went from being the second fastest skater on my hockey team to the slowest. But my parents just thought I was being lazy and its funny cause we were going to the doctor the next day but then all this happened today. So my mom took me home and I just flopped on the bed and she said something's not right here.So she drove me to the Cape Breton Regional hospital.Thats where I spent the next three days they were diagnosing Lupis or Dermatomyositis. and then an ambulance drove me and my mom up to the I.W.K where I spent three months and I got discharged for me and my dads birthday. But It was a complete mistake coming home because this disease was just getting started when I came home. I had a kidney infection a bladder infection kidney stones an immonia and shingles. But when I came back to the I.W.K I was there for another two months then I got discharged again and Im still home.my prednisone is at twenty five and I have to go to halifax every month for I.V.I.G Inter Venis Immunal Globulin a blood product and permidrenate. But the I.W.K is a wonderful place to be if your a sick child and It did lots for me.
