"I’m amazed that a small community and a small school can give so much. My son has used the services provided by the Health Centre, and I feel like the money that’s raised is a gift, not just to the IWK, but to each family that needs their care."
Pam works with the We’koqma’q First Nation School in Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. The school first started fundraising for the IWK Foundation when a former student became ill and began treatment at the Health Centre. Since then, several other students and families have also been touched by the IWK. Inspired by their experiences, to date the teachers, staff, and students of the We’koqma’q First Nation School have raised more than $50,000 for the IWK Foundation. To raise funds, the school holds an annual "Fun Day" before the IWK Telethon for Children on CTV which includes a bake sale, a yard sale, various games, pony rides, and a silent auction. Pam believes that fundraising teaches children to leave a legacy and give back to their community.
